CIRCUS TEA & UNDER TABLE DEN

20140510-172925.jpg

Noah is nearly 2! His birthday is tomorrow so the kids & I spent the afternoon putting together a special circus themed party table with an undertable den for him…
We all helped out, I made the cake a couple of days ago and we used what we already had in the craft box to glue, stick, cut out and paint till we were happy, we even had Noah’s approval.
All that’s left to do now is laden it with scrummy party food, turn the music up, open presents and eat cake!

Here’s how we did it…

We started by putting a piece of material on the table securing it with tape, our material was a fleecy blanket from ikea for a few pound.. I then marked up the bars with a pen ready to cut out.

20140510-173213.jpg
We pinned some wallpaper to the wall that would be the canvas for our circus scene.

20140510-173319.jpg
Eden set about making the bunting by using sticky tape to attach coloured triangles to a length of wool (because we had no string)

20140510-173433.jpg
Everybody helped draw and colour our ringside circus scene.

20140510-173537.jpg
The backdrop turned out well..

20140510-173605.jpg
I made a circus parade sign for our circus cage..

20140510-173720.jpg
We started to lay the table..

20140510-173954.jpgNoah tested out the under table den..

20140510-174027.jpgSo did Mila

20140510-174326.jpg

20140510-174339.jpgWe used water balloons to fill a basket and stick to the walls, we found that once blown up if we rubbed them on our hands it created enough friction to keep them stuck to the wall..

20140510-174505.jpgWe filled a truck with sweeties.

20140510-174604.jpgAnd wrapped some presents

20140510-174633.jpg everyone did a fab job!!

MAN V FOOD THEMED DINNER

20140328-200153.jpg
We decided we wanted to do our own Man V Food challenge…. So we set about turning the kitchen table into our Family Days Diner…
Here’s how we got on…

We started with an empty table space..

20140328-200405.jpg
I hung some wallpaper on the wall with drawing pins..

20140328-200445.jpg
I then used black paint to make our diner tiles..

20140328-200519.jpg
We then painted and hung our banner and some mega burgers..

20140328-200602.jpg
I went to the supermarket & bought, onion rings, fries, cheese, a tin of chilli, coke & mince to make our burgers….
We mixed the mince with breadcrumbs, egg, onion & some salt and pepper to season…
The kids mixed the mixture together..

20140328-200826.jpg
And then formed the patties..

20140328-200913.jpg
We made labels for our vase of coke..

20140328-201001.jpg
and our burger tower..

20140328-201045.jpg</a

We painted a piece of card black to use as our menu board and stood it up by pushing it into a potato..

20140328-201211.jpg
We made certificates for the winners and losers..

20140328-201300.jpg

20140328-201308.jpg
And we set about cooking our food..

20140328-201512.jpg

20140328-201519.jpg

20140328-201527.jpg

We had stacked onion rings and burgers, I pushed skewers into potatoes to use as our stackers..

20140328-201642.jpg

20140328-201651.jpg
and a vase of coke..

20140328-201739.jpg
We also had cheesy chips..

20140328-201812.jpg

We battled through our dinner and ate till our bellies could take no more…in the end the food won…

MINION LUNCH PAILS

20140303-163507.jpg

What can you do with an empty cheese ball caddy? How about making minion lunch pails…
Here’s how I did it…

I collected together coloured paper, glue, some black pipe cleaners, some colouring pens and string..

20140303-163734.jpg

I used a glue stick to attach some yellow paper to the caddy and then loosely attached some blue on so I could draw the minions dungarees ready to cut out.
Once I was happy with the dungarees shape I gently removed it and cut out the dungarees, added stitching detail & a logo’d pocket with a marker pen and used the glue stick to attach it back onto the yellow paper.

20140303-164232.jpg

20140303-164239.jpg

I then cut out some eyes and a mouth and added detail with a marker pen, I added a circle of yellow paper to the lid and carefully made some holes to poke through our black pipe cleaners for our minions hair.
Finally I made a hole either side of the caddy and threaded through some string to create our handle.

20140303-164505.jpg

20140303-164529.jpg

I lined the inside with a napkin & made a small picnic to fill our pail…
(You could also cover your minion with clear tape to make it last longer)

20140303-164834.jpg

20140303-164854.jpg

And then we headed out to find a spot to enjoy our minion picnic.

WIZARD OF OZ ADVENTURE

20140213-094352.jpg

I decided that i wanted to do a Wizard of Oz themed birthday picnic in a crooked wood for Mila. I used as much as i could from around the house with the only expense being her cake which i had planned to be a simple white iced xmas cake with a yellow brick road, fortunately M&S had a beautiful xmas cake reduced which was ideal to lay our yellow brick road on. With a few simple, cheap and effective items gathered we managed to turn a visit to the woods into a magical trip to OZ. Here’s how we find it…

20140213-094439.jpg

We started with our prep, we wrapped presents in yellow paper to represent the yellow brick road..

20140213-094539.jpg

And tin foil to represent the tin man, we tied them all with sting to represent the scarecrow..

20140213-094635.jpg

I made OZ signs for the trees..

20140213-094712.jpg

20140213-094729.jpg

I made a special box which contained wished crystals and a letter explaining how to use them,

We used nail art crystals (a packet of 10 for £1 in Pondland)….. BIRTHDAY WISH CRYSTALS.

20140213-095108.jpg

With Toto in tow we headed to the woods..

20140213-095213.jpg

20140213-095340.jpg
I used some ready roll icing with a few drops of yellow food colouring to make a brick road, this was to lay on the top of a white iced cake to make our OZ birthday cake.
We set up our white iced xmas cake which was half price in the sales and added our yellow brick road. I used a liquorice wood stick to make the sign post.

20140213-095450.jpg

I used Candy floss tub (3 for £1 in Tesco) as Good witch of the east dresses, i tied with ribbon and a magic wand.

20140213-095539.jpg
I then placed our yellow brick road presents along the woodland path, i wrapped them with yellow paper and string along with some wrapped in tin foil to represent the tin man.

20140213-095632.jpg

i wrapped a watering can in tin foil to make our oil can and took a ruby red and emerald green cushions around the base of a tree.

20140213-095717.jpg

We had Rainbows overhead.

20140213-095809.jpg

We took a bubble machine that we hung in the trees to represent the good witch of the east floating down in her bubble.

20140213-095856.jpg

20140213-095908.jpg

we had a jar full of yellow brick road and emerald city sweets (taken from a tin of Roses)
I wrapped up a Wizard of Oz dvd with emerald green ribbon and placed it in a tree.

20140213-100203.jpg

20140213-100211.jpg

20140213-100220.jpg

We made a rope swing, found some witches loot and stumbled on birthday messages from the munchkins..

20140213-100413.jpg

20140213-100428.jpg
We explored the crooked woods..

20140213-100511.jpg

And even found the wicked witch!!!

20140213-100656.jpg

Mila discovered her box full of rainbow birthday wishes….

After a beautiful day over the rainbow we headed back down the yellow brick road… Because There’s no place like home 🙂

TEALIGHT MINI MARSHMALLOW TOASTING

We love toasting marshmallows! On an open fire, over the gas hob and even by tealights….

There’s nothing better than being in the toasty warm inside, a good book, rain lashing at your window & hot chocolate in a mug….

There’s nothing better than toasting mini marshmallows by tealight..

Here’s how we did it…

First we gathered our hot chocolate..

20131122-002953.jpg

Then we gathered our marshmallows on cocktail sticks, some squirty cream & sprinkles…

20131122-003123.jpg

Then we laid the coffee table with our mallow winter warming feast…

20131122-003208.jpg

Finally we toasted & ate til marshmallows came from our ears…
