ST PATRICKS DAY, AN IRISH THEMED DAY

We decided to celebrate St Patricks day by learning all about Ireland…. Here’s how we did it….

20140225-090835.jpg

We used empty baby food jars to make our St Patricks Day treats. We simply filled with Rolos & Skittles (gold & rainbow) & topped with marshmallows (a cloud)…. You could replace the skittles with smarties & serve as a bedtime treat with hot chocolate.

20140225-090951.jpg

We made some marshmallows dipped in chocolate for St Patricks day, we melted the chocolate and added a few drops of green food colouring, we then cut out some shamrock using green paper which we sticky taped to cocktail sticks, we finished off with a packet of smarties and some gold chocolate coins (you could use Rolos)

20140225-091047.jpg

We used a pepper cut in half to print shamrock patterns…

20140225-091134.jpg

We did a simple shamrock hunt in the woods & then found the gold at the end of the rainbow…

20140225-091218.jpg

We went searching for Shamrock, we found Clover which is in the same family.

20140225-091256.jpg

We made some Irish flags for our scene setting.

20140225-091332.jpg

We used a roll of rainbow wrapping paper to make our rainbow over the table and we cut out white clouds…

20140225-091407.jpg

We used an old bottle that we filled with lime milkshake for breakfast..

20140225-091443.jpg

For breakfast we had a fruit rainbow with yoghurt clouds and a shortbread biscuit.

20140225-091515.jpg

We made place settings with cardboard.

20140225-091550.jpg

We bought some traditional Irish food.

20140225-091641.jpg

We made Irish stew..

20140225-091729.jpg

We had our own yummy rainbow…

20140225-091759.jpg

We looked at our globe to find out where Ireland is…

20140225-091904.jpg

‘Lucky scratch cards’ I drew a design on a piece of card, I then mixed a few drops of washing up liquid with a small amount of silver acrylic paint. I covered the part of the scratch card design I wanted to be scratched with sticky tape and then painted over it, once dry our scratch cards were ready to try our luck

To finish our day us adults had a traditional taste of Ireland 🙂

WORRY GRUBS

20140224-175351.jpg

We decided to make some worry grubs in an attempt to take any worries away we may have. We used air dry clay wrapped with wool and a matchstick box. You could also use pebbles or small sticks.

Here’s how we did it…

20140224-175421.jpg

We got together our clay, wool, matchstick box and a toothpick to sculpt our grubs faces…

20140224-175528.jpg

We started by rolling our clay into a grub like shape..

20140224-175620.jpg

Then we wrapped our wool around our grub and tied to secure it…

20140224-175710.jpg

We lined our boxes with a piece of material…

20140224-175758.jpg

And our worry grubs were ready!!!!

When we go to bed we shall whisper any worries we have to our grubs and place them under our pillow…. Our grubs will then take our worries away..

MONSTER MEN BOTTLE BANKS

20140224-161531.jpg

We wanted to make some piggy banks so set about making some alternatives, We bought some bottles of value water for 17p each.

20140224-161617.jpg

We painted our empty bottle with Matt emulsion (because that’s what we had in the garage!) we left a viewing window so we could see our savings building up.

20140224-161659.jpg

We cut out some lips..

20140224-161743.jpg

We then added eyes which I had printed onto paper and cut our..

We glued the lips to white paper..

20140224-161836.jpg

20140224-161909.jpg

We glued our mouths to the bottles.

20140224-162017.jpg

20140224-162109.jpg

Finally I carefully cut off the knock of the bottle and we added hair, all that was left was to dig down the side of the sofa for pennies to add…

AIR DRY CLAY FAMILY TREE TOTEM POLE

We decided we were going to make our own natural totem pole in the forest…
We took with us a pack of air dry clay (£3.50 in Hobby craft) to make a totem pole with all our family on it. We also took a pop up tent, flask of soup and some crusty bread, we used latex gloves from Poundland to minimise the mess…

Here’s how we got on…

20140224-155405.jpg
We started by placing dollops of clay on our chosen tree…

20140224-155521.jpg

We then used lollipop sticks to mould our self portraits…

20140224-155656.jpg

We added googly eyes..

20140224-155747.jpg

We then set the tent up for our forest picnic..

20140224-155849.jpg

Even Noah helped make a portrait model…

20140224-155938.jpg

Which he loved..

20140224-160023.jpg

After some time building a den…

20140224-160104.jpg

We all had some warm soup..

20140224-160156.jpg

And loads of fun as the wind kept taking our tent 🙂

20140224-160327.jpg

Our totem pole turned out fab and everyone was very proud!
